Claire Weekes was born in Sydney in 1903 and received her education at the University of Sydney, where she studied zoology. However, she later shifted her focus and trained to become a General Practitioner of Medicine in 1952.

Having personally experienced anxiety and noticing its prevalence among her patients, she became deeply interested in exploring new treatment methods. Rather than emphasizing emotional trauma as the psychiatric community commonly did, Claire concentrated on the physical symptoms of anxiety and panic. She believed that patients could benefit from learning to face their anxiety rather than avoiding or fighting it.
Although her approach faced skepticism from the medical community, which largely adhered to Freudian methods of discussing past traumas at length, she remained committed to a more practical approach. Over time, her techniques proved increasingly successful.
To share her approach with a broader audience, she authored several books that have since helped countless individuals recover from anxiety. Her teachings are just as relevant today, helping anxiety sufferers transform their lives, and inspiring numerous counsellors, coaches, and therapists to adopt her methods in treating the anxiety condition.
Claire Weekes died in 1990 at the age of 87, leaving a priceless legacy for generations to come. The five books that she wrote in her lifetime (and the original publication date) are:
Self-Help for Your Nerves, 1962
Hope and Help for Your Nerves, 1969
Peace from Nervous Suffering, 1972
Agoraphobia: Simple Effective Treatment, 1976
More Help for Your Nerves, 1984
